In
its ten year history, the Quintessential Vocal
Ensemble (QVE) has brought together a high
standard of performance and a love of the choral
art in becoming one of Newfoundland and Labrador's
most accomplished choirs. The group was formed
originally in 1993 by alumni of the award-winning
Holy Heart of Mary High School Chamber Choir and
their conductor Susan Quinn, out of a desire that
their musical experiences together might continue.
Now based in the St. John's community, its members
come from diverse backgrounds in music, work and
study. The choir is known for its versatile a
cappella repertoire, including sacred, spiritual,
folk, jazz, and works by contemporary composers.
A Quintessential Christmas
is the beautiful new CD by the international
award-winning Quintessential Vocal Ensemble of St.
John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Suffused with the
warm glow of the choir’s richly textured harmony
and blend, the album brings the Christmas spirit
to life in music spanning 500 years of history,
from traditional carols to contemporary pop
favourites and new a cappella compositions.
