|
With
the exception of her contribution to several
compilation CDs and a concept album for Gros Mome
National Park, "Montage" is Shirley
Montague's first full length recording in 15
years. The 12 songs encompass a variety of styles,
influences and moods, showcasing her versatility
as a singer and songwriter. She attributes this to
her early years as a musician in the small
Labrador town of North West River, where she
learned to embrace and perform different styles of
music, while entertaining audiences of all ages.
The songs range in mood from humour to melancholy
and span 25 years of writings.
The music was initially
captured in a temporary studio setting at the
Comer Brook Arts and Culture Centre, where natural
reverb and acoustics contribute to a special sound
and energy. Additional tracks were later woven
into the mix at L.M. Audio, and Big Bully
Productions.
If you have not gathered so
already, this is a totally diverse and
entertaining CD. Shirley says that one of the joys
of being an independent artist is the license to
create without borders - definitely true in this
case!
