After a number of unsuccessful attempts to find work in the music business, Rita MacNeil found inspiration in the women's movement. In 1971, she wrote about women having a voice and called it Need For Restoration; the next year she wrote a song protesting a beauty pageant, called Born A Woman, which became the title of her first album, recorded in 1974. Picked up by Boot Records, BORN A WOMAN launched MacNeil into the folk music circuit.

On a cold, clear Newfoundland night shortly after Christmas, several outlandishly costumed mummers appear and Granny's house suddenly erupts in a burst of joking and tomfoolery, raucous singing and exuberant dancing. Granny and her two young charges are instantly caught up in the merriment. When the evening's festivities come to a close, the mummers are bid a fond farewell until next year.

The Celtic Fiddlers are a performing group that consists of drums including the bodhran, a keyboard, guitar, bass Irish tin whistle, and many violins. The group practices every week and enjoys learning new pieces of music, especially the songs and jigs and reels of their Irish ancestors.

John Gracie began singing before he was speaking! His mother would often find him behind the coal stove singing his little heart out. He thought if you couldn't see him, you couldn't hear him. John's mother knew John had a special gift and sent him to vocal lessons when he turned 4.  John went on to perform as a teenager in local events and on local radio. He taught himself to play the guitar and wrote continuously. In unversity, he performed and hosted intercollegiate folk festivals and was a favourite on the college circuit. After university, he started to perform professionally.

“The Sounds of Christmas” is Gerard’s third CD. Filled with loving Christmas songs, there is something for everyone. “The Sounds of Christmas” contains some neatly arranged classics such as Away in a Manger and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer , as well as songs by some for Gerard’s personal favourite Canadian songwriters such as Bruce Guthro, Kevin Evans, John Gracie and David Fitzpatrick. Growing up in a big family certainly prepared Doris Mason for a diverse and colorful career in music. From the age of 3, she has been tinkling the ivories and singing. Doris has been featured on national television, radio, stage and in concert halls. Her CD, Photograph, garnered her an ECMA nomination. She has traveled throughout Europe, Sweden, the Caribbean and most recently, New York City, performing with Denny Doherty in Dream a Little Dream: The Nearly True Story of the Mamas and the Papas off-Broadway. She has produced several CDs for a variety of artists and has been the musical director of DRUM! since its inception.  "Christmas with the Mason's" features the extended Mason family and includes nine traditional and four original songs.
